Exiled Chimurenga music legend Thomas Mapfumo arrived in the UK on Tuesday ahead of a one-off show at the Corah Suite in Leicester on Saturday.

Steve “Dhongi” Makoni and protest musician Raymond Majongwe who are set to share the stage with Mapfumo are expected in the UK on Thursday.
Mapfumo spent some time in Luton on Tuesday where he was treated to some fish for lunch at a Jamaican restaurant. He had interviews on Jamrock Radio with with King Alfred.
Dubbed the Chimurenga Bira Festival, the gig sees UK based DJ’s King Alfred and Tee Mag handling proceedings. There will only be one show in the UK and organisers have urged Zimbabweans from all corners of the UK to come in their numbers in Leicester.
According to a spokesperson for VeeJay Events who are managing the show, the all night music extravaganza has drawn together genuine Chimurenga gurus and would be a blend of yesteryear sounds in addition to yet to be released tunes.
Mapfumo, Majongwe and Makoni will on Thursday appear on Nehanda TV.
