MDC supporters in Mutoko East, Mashonaland East province were intimidated by Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) officers at the weekend that brought a helicopter at an MDC rally.
Over 10 000 MDC supporters had gathered at Nyamakosi Business Centre and when the provincial leadership started addressing the gathering, an AFZ helicopter arrived and started hovering at the centre.
This led to panic among those gathered and some recalling the State sponsored violence of last year, which led to the death of over 500 MDC supporters fleeing from the rally.
One of the AFZ officers in the crew was identified as Manhanga, from the 21 Infantry Battalion, who is understood to work under the command of Bramwell Katsvairo who spearheaded violence in Mashonaland East province last year during the presidential run-off.
However, the rally went ahead and the MDC supporters gathered vowed that they would continue to support the party despite threats from the army and Zanu PF supporters.
The matter was reported at Mutoko Police Station but the police officers refused to open a docket amid fears that the officers had also been threatened by Katsvairo.
