Muzarabani – An MDC activist Josphat Chidindi, 25, from Muzarabani district in Mashonaland Central province, had to be hospitalised for a week after he was axed by Zanu PF youths.
Chidindi, the Muzarabani district organising secretary, was struck twice with an axe in Karuma Village, Machaya Ward by a group of about 10 Zanu PF youths on 25 June 2009.
“Vaitoda musoro asi ndakavhara noruoko rwangu urwu, ndichidanidzira vakomana vachibva vatiza” (They wanted my head but I blocked the axe with my hand and called out for help, and they ran away) said the heavily bandaged Chidindi.
He was only released from hospital on Monday.
Meanwhile, Danny Mutasa, another MDC activist from Chibaya village in Muzarabani has been admitted into hospital after Zanu PF youths threw stones into the hut he was sleeping in, injuring him in the process.
The Zanu PF youths went to Mutasa’s homestead in the evening of 26 June 2009 and threw stones into his hut, which has not been properly repaired since its destruction last year.
Mutasa, 29, sustained serious injuries from the attack and is recovering in hospital. The two have made reports at Muzarabani Police and although the culprits have been identified, no arrests have been made.
