Sniper takes aim at Winky D as fallout over Castle Tankard line-up heats up

ZimDancehall chanter Sniper Storm has reignited his long-standing feud with fellow dancehall artist Winky D, mocking the Gafa president for failing to once again make the final roster of artists that will perform at the Castle Tankard.

The event, which will take place on 11 May at Borrowdale Racecourse, will this year feature DJ Fantan, Freeman, Alick Macheso, Bling4 and Master H.

Winky’s last appearance at the horseracing and music extravaganza ended in controversy in 2022, after police officers walked on stage and took the microphone from the dancehall artiste.

On that occasion, police alleged that organisers had overstepped by allowing the event to continue up until past 10 pm.

However, conspiracy theorists alleged that Winky D, one of the few government critics in Zimbabwean music, was being punished by authorities for his political views.

The musician has not been invited to the event, which he used to headline on almost a yearly basis, since then.

Posting on social media on Wednesday, Sniper, real name Donald Chirisa, a long-time nemesis of Winky, poked fun at the Gafa for the supposed snub.

“Vanhu varikuti ku Castle Tankard hazviite zvicharamba, aiwa sorry henyu, zvichangoita! Makajaidzwa sterek kkk. Line up yakanaka iyo.”

In another post, he posted:” Workers Day to everyone. Have a blessed day. But I have a quick question. Saka wavarikuda kuti abviswe apa ne @castlelagerzw Tankard pachiiswa wavo ndiani?

“Asingadewo kushandawo nekudya kumba kwake nduepi apa? Ndeupi apa asinawo mhuri yekuchengeta or mabills? NDIANI???”

A few weeks ago Sniper joined the long list of musicians being bribed with vehicles by controversial businessman Wicknell Chivayo to support the ruling party, Zanu PF.

After several posts from Sniper begging for a car, Chivayo eventually gave the musician a Mercedes Benz C200.
