Dr Alex Magaisa’s young brother dies from cardiac arrest in South Africa

Benji Magaisa, the youngest brother of the late academic, Dr Alex Magaisa, has succumbed to a cardiac arrest in Pretoria, South Africa.

His family announced the tragic development on Tuesday night.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and brother. His kindness, warmth, and love touched the lives of many.

“REST IN PEACE DZIVA

“From your family and friends, We Shall Forever Miss You, Fly High Brother,” the family said.

Just like his late brother who struggled with a heart ailment before his death in 2022, Benji also died due to a cardiac arrest.

Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono issued his condolences, saying: “I am deeply saddened with the passing of Benji Magaisa, the youngest brother of the late Dr. Alex Magaisa.

“He died in Pretoria, South Africa from a cardiac arrest. May his soul rest in peace and may the Magaisa family be comforted during this painful and difficult time.

Dr Alex Magaisa was a prominent Zimbabwean figure who balanced a successful academic career abroad with a deep commitment to his home country. Born in 1975, he earned a law degree and went on to lecture at the Kent Law School in the United Kingdom.

Dr Magaisa also played a pivotal role in Zimbabwean politics. He served as Chief Advisor to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai from 2012 to 2013.

Prior to this appointment, Dr Magaisa lent his expertise as a legal scholar to the committee tasked with drafting Zimbabwe’s new constitution.

Beyond academia and politics, Dr Magaisa was a passionate commentator on social and political issues. His blog, “The Big Saturday Read,” provided a platform for his insights on Zimbabwe and other developing nations.
