Grace Mugabe solidarity March a non-event

By Nokulunga Masuku

The solidarity march organized by the ruling ZANU-PF in sustenance of Grace Mugabe‘s ire against a 20 year-old South African model which happened two weeks ago in South Africa is a non-event to say the least.

What march, what solidarity when a woman who is ought to be at the forefront of championing women‘s rights and realizing women’s month is busy attacking her own folk? Does attacking someone’s child make one a heroine that has to be celebrated?

To start with, Grace is the aggressor and not the victim, if there should be any solidarity march, it should be in Zimbabwe and South Africa incited by women and men who do not condone Grace’s behavior in support of Gabriella Engels who was attacked by the so called First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Grace should by now know that there is nothing special about her sons. They get to do every naughty deed like all the other children. If she does not like what they do with ladies, she should not take her rage on the ladies, rather, she should deal with her brats or put them in quarantine for the rest of their lives.

Who amongst Zimbabweans has had an altercation with their neighbor’s child and they call the whole country to march with them? Zimbabweans have far more worrisome issues that need to be addressed than to be rallying behind and around Grace Mugabe for her wayward and unruly behavior.

It is very sad to note that her sons are living a lavish lifestyle envied by all at the expense of the tax payers’ money. It is the same money that ZANU-PF hooligans used to hire buses as a way of proving their allegiance to the President. Seriously as bad as things are in the country, that money should have been channeled to feeding orphans and widows who are in dire need of food around the country.

Zimbabwe is among the nations with the best education system, yet Grace and her husband, as all the ZANU-PF big wigs, still ship their children to study out of the country, and one wonders what is wrong with our own institutes of higher learning which Mugabe oversees as the Chancellor. Or are they  meant for commoners like us?

Grace‘s fight with the Engels girl was not supposed to be a national event. Who is Grace Mugabe by the way? She is not our President, but her husband is, so she should not by any means turn us into a petticoat government.

The poor citizens of Zimbabwe who are struggling to give their sons and daughters the same standards of living as her sons should not be dragged into her tantrums, let her fight her own battles.
