Controversial prophet and founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) ministries Walter Magaya’s bodyguards allegedly beat up staff from the High Court Sherriff’s offices at the church’s premises in Waterfalls, Harare on Monday.
The court officials had attended at the PHD Ministries’ premises to execute a High Court Order in a case of Modern Bricks Property (Private) Limited vs PHD Ministries Case NO. HC4474/16.
Eyewitnesses said the court officials had their vehicles temporarily forcibly taken away from them by Prophet Magaya’s security staff.
“The vehicles were only released to the Sheriff after a few hours when the police intervened,” said one eyewitness.
The attack came after the Sheriff’s staff tried to proceed to attach property for a debt that Prophet Magaya’s PHD Ministries owes to Morden Bricks in the sum of $14 320.00
A report was made at the Waterfalls police station.
One of the injured Sheriff staff member only identified as Tonde was taken to Harare Central hospital around 1600hrs.
The victim, according to the witnesses, was attended at Harare Hospital where his treatment included some pain killers and injections.
Another eyewitness said the bodyguards were boasting that they will only be made to pay US$20 admission of guilty fines.
“I just cannot get my head round the fact that such lawlessness can happen at PHD Ministries with impunity. This really shows how a culture of the rule of law has been eroded. This is an attack on the High Court when the Warrant in the name of the Chief Justice of the country can be trashed so easily by a bunch of thugs employed by a religious leader,” said the eyewitness.
Efforts to get a police comment proved fruitless by the time of writing this article.
This not the first time Prophet Magaya’s bodyguards have been accused of assault.
In March 2014, a Marondera resident claimed that he was assaulted by three bodyguards who were part of a motorcade accompanying the PHD leader to a healing session in the town. Nehanda Radio
