SOUTH AFRICA – Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was discharged from a Cape Town hospital on Tuesday and was looking forward to spending time with his family and watching cricket.

The Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation said Tutu, 83, arrived back at his home in Cape Town, clad in a dressing gown with the words “Feet Up Arch” embroided on the back.
“The Archbishop paid warm tribute to his team of doctors for their expertise and generosity. He looked forward to spending quality time with Mrs Tutu and watching a little cricket (South Africa are playing in Bangladesh),” the statement on the foundation’s website read.
Tutu was admitted to a Cape Town hospital last Tuesday to treat a stubborn infection, but said the treatment was not related to the prostate cancer he has been managing for the past 18 years. He celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Nomalizo Leah earlier in July.
His daughter Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu, on Tuesday said his medical team had prescribed lots of rest.
“They have been fantastic and we’ll be doing our best not to disappoint them,” she said.
She said the family was “very grateful for the love and support” from people in South Africa and abroad.
On Monday, the foundation said that Tutu was no longer receiving intensive antibiotic treatment.
At the time, Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said her father, fondly referred to as “The Arch” was no longer receiving intravenous treatment but would remain under observation in hospital for another few days. ANA
