The show was also beamed live on South Africa’s radio channel, 99.2 YFM.

The organisers said they had to close the gate at around 11pm because the house was full.

The show was organised by Punchline Entertainment, in conjuction with African Storm.

“We were humbled with the turn out. This is by far the most successful dancehall show to be staged in a foreign land. Tocky Vibes did justice and many people requested an encore,” said one of the organisers.

Unlike his peers, Tocky is gaining popularity for his hard hitting lyrics which are pregnant with meaning.

His lyrical prowess, laced with good song writing skills, has made him one of the most sought after dancehall artistes in the country.

The musician has already been compared with the late Marshall Munhumumwe, who was known for his poetic prowess.

Born Obey Makamure, the 20-year-old is never looking back and is promising the nation more ‘constructive’ songs.

Tocky Vibes started music back in 2009, but stormed on the limelight recently – many thanks to his “soul-soothing music” which many dancehall fanatics believe has substance.

The Lucky Dube inspired chanter bares it all, saying unlike several Zim dancehall chanters, he is in the music business to make a living for himself and teach young people real life lessons.

He said his music, despite being inspired by daily social factors, arises from the ghetto and his ability to fuse those real life situations gave him a pictorial view of what ordinary human beings should do to curb poverty by ‘effortlessly’ communicating through music.

“Music is art; which one either earns over a certain period of time or was born with. Tocky can confirm that he never attended music lectures before meaning I ventured into this whole music thing because it is inborn.

“I write songs that anyone can draw lessons from  and I do not limit myself to concentrate on one subject which is why I am different from any other artiste of my age. My vision and mission is to teach both fellow youths and all those who dare listen to my music,” said Tocky.

Asked if he is untouchable, Tocky said he was a Christian and loved to see other people elevated in every possible way.

Tocky has gained mileage in the cut-throat music scene following a series of hit singles such as Simudza Maoko,Mhai, Handityi and Ndini ndinorira, to name but just a few. The Zimbabwe Mail
