MARONDERA – The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched an investigation into a daring robbery at the residence of controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo’s in-laws, where approximately US$75,000 in cash was stolen.
The stolen amount is believed to be part of the lobola payment received by Chivayo’s in-laws when he married his girlfriend Lulu Muteke last week.
According to reports, a group of approximately 19 armed robbers carried out the heist at Alpha Omega Farm in Marondera.
The police, according to ZimLive, have launched an investigation into the robbery and are working to recover the stolen funds.
The stolen amount has raised eyebrows, as it contradicts Chivayo’s recent claims regarding his lobola payment.
Chivayo had stated in an interview that he paid less than US$20,000 as lobola for Lulu. However, the stolen cash is believed to be part of the lobola payment, which was reportedly around US$300,000.
In a separate incident, two security guards employed by Safeguard have been fired for allegedly providing unauthorised security services to the flamboyant businessman.
The guards, identified as Gunner Chitsatsva and Zvirawa, were accused of escorting Chivayo to his car after he was mobbed by a crowd at a bank in Harare.
The guards’ employer deemed their actions as unprofessional, stating that they were not contracted to provide security services to Chivayo.
“As a company, we do not have a contract with Chivayo and the two had no right to offer him security when they were supposed to be manning the premises,” a Safeguard manager, only identified as Gwatidzo confirmed the development to H-Metro.
“The video circulated on social media and it did not give a good picture to our organisation since they were in uniform.
“Kana mukariwonawo video racho vashandi vedu vakangavakatoti kwati kwati vachidzivirira vaChivayo,” he said.
Chivayo has made waves in Zimbabwe for splashing millions of cash and vehicles to musicians and politicians linked to Zanu-PF. While his source of money is unknown, the ex-convict is linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
