The rape trial of prominent businessman and former Renaissance Financial Holdings banker Patterson Timba (59) has been postponed to March 13 by Kadoma Regional Magistrate Tandaridze Ignatius Mugova.
The delay follows the commencement of the defense case, which saw two key state witnesses take the stand.
Representing Timba, defense lawyer Tinashe Matiashe cross-examined the complainant, Rhoda Gandanga, and witness Brian Tivaone. Matiashe challenged the state’s allegations on two primary fronts.
The defense argued that Timba was not residing at Tolrose Mine during the period the offense allegedly occurred.
Matiashe moved to dismiss the state’s medical report, questioning the significant time lapse between the alleged incident in October 2023 and the subsequent medical examination.
The prosecution, led by Kudakwashe Charehwa, alleges that Timba sexually abused his employee in late 2023.
The trial is set to resume on March 13, where the investigating officer and the medical practitioner who authored the report are expected to testify.
