Dynamos were left frustrated after conceding deep into stoppage time to settle for a 2-2 draw against an improving Manica Diamonds side in Mutare on Sunday.

The result leaves questions for Genesis Mangombe’s men over whether they should celebrate a hard-earned away point or lament a missed opportunity after leading late in the match.

Manica Diamonds made a bright start and took the lead in the 26th minute when Russel Kahiki bundled the ball home from close range following a scramble inside the penalty area.

The hosts believed they had doubled their advantage later in the half, but referee Quesdani Dirwai ruled out what appeared to be a legitimate goal from a Charles Teguru free-kick, much to the frustration of the home supporters.

Dynamos emerged from the break with renewed purpose and levelled the scores in the 54th minute through Frank Agyemang, who finished clinically to bring the visitors back into the contest.

The Harare giants then turned the game around six minutes later when Moses Demera slipped in unnoticed at the far post to tap home and give DeMbare a 2-1 advantage.

Just as Dynamos looked set to collect all three points, Manica Diamonds produced a dramatic late response.

Six minutes into added time, Teguru pounced on a loose ball and unleashed a low drive that beat the goalkeeper to spark celebrations among the home fans and rescue a point for the hosts.

After the match, Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe felt his side should have won comfortably.

“I think this was an easy match that we could have easily won with a wide margin, but my strikers wasted a lot of scoring chances,” said Mangombe.

“Well, they managed to equalise late into the match and I am still wondering why the match officials had eight minutes of added time.

“That was just too much.”

Manica Diamonds coach Patrick Mandizha, meanwhile, was left to reflect on his side’s missed opportunities despite securing a valuable point.

The draw highlighted the growing competitiveness of a Manica Diamonds team that continues to show signs of improvement as the season progresses.
