GABORONE – The Botswana Police Service has confirmed that it has recaptured Stella Sibanda, a 50-year-old Zimbabwean national, who escaped from the Gaborone Women’s Prison.

Wearing green prison overalls, Sibanda escaped on Wednesday (04/02/2026) while still on remand for a murder case that occurred in Kopong in 2025.

Law enforcement agencies launched a manhunt following her escape and she was eventually apprehended “in Gaborone and has since been returned to lawful custody.”
