Air Tanzania to launch a new Victoria Falls, Dar es Salaam to Cape Town route

VICTORIA FALLS – While Air Zimbabwe dithers in the doldrums, other airlines are taking advantage, the latest being Air Tanzania confirming they will launch a new Victoria Falls, Dar es Salaam to Cape Town route on 11 December 2025.

The airline’s Zimbabwe Country Manager, Ismail Mpinga, confirmed the development in an interview with the state owned Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC).

“Air Tanzania is planning to commence our scheduled flight from Dar es Salaam to Victoria Falls, commencing on December 11 and the route is going to be operating two times a week (Thursdays and Sundays).

“We decided to go to Vic Falls and Cape Town as they are tourist destinations. We look at these two destinations as brothers and sisters, so we will link them in terms of marketing with the tourism board.”

Meanwhile Air Zimbabwe, once a leading regional carrier, has spent more than a decade battling severe financial and operational decline.

The airline accumulated massive debt, suffered from mismanagement and corruption, and lost key international certifications, forcing it to cut most of its routes and ground much of its aging fleet.

In 2018, the government placed the airline under administration in a bid to rescue it.

While Air Zimbabwe has since resumed limited domestic and regional flights and begun settling some outstanding debts, it still lacks sufficient aircraft and resources to restore its former international network.

Efforts to revive the flag carrier remain ongoing, but its long-term stability is yet to be secured.
