SOWETO – Zimbabwe national team goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has once again lived up to his new nickname, ‘Mr Carling Black Label’.

This comes after he claimed a record sixth Man of the Match (MOTM) award on Tuesday during Magesi FC’s 2–1 loss to Soweto giants Orlando Pirates in the tournament’s quarter final match.

Chipezeze was in inspired form, pulling off six top-drawer saves in the first half to keep Magesi in the game.

However, the Buccaneers eventually broke the deadlock in the 51st minute through Tshepang Moremi, who unleashed a powerful strike past the in-form goalie.

Pirates continued to pile on the pressure, and Evidence Makgopa doubled their lead with five minutes remaining.

Lehlohonolo Mokone managed to pull one back for Magesi with the final kick of the game, but it was too late to prevent their exit from the tournament.

Despite the defeat, Chipezeze’s stellar performance earned him the MOTM award, once again highlighting his consistency and class between the posts.

Posting on his Facebook page, the former Baroka FC shot-stopper expressed his gratitude after receiving the prestigious individual accolade.

“Thank you again for the love and support you guys have shown throughout the competition,” he wrote.

“Your constant support and encouragement really pushed us to do better. Enjoy the rest of the competition and see you soon.”

By receiving the award, Chipezeze further cemented his status as ‘Mr Carling Black Label’, having won the MOTM gong four consecutive times last season and twice in a row this campaign.

Each award comes with R100,000 in prize money, meaning he has now pocketed a total of R600,000 from his six wins.
