FC Platinum suspends goalkeeper and defender amid match-fixing allegations

ZVISHAVANE – Former champions FC Platinum have suspended goalkeeper David Bizabani and defender Thubelihle Ndlovu.

This is amid allegations of match-fixing during their 5-2 defeat to Scottland FC last Saturday at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane.

The two players were handed suspension letters as the club initiates internal investigations into claims that they deliberately underperformed.

FC Platinum officials suspect that Bizabani and Ndlovu may have been compromised by their opponents.

Probably, the club officials are raising suspicions after the duo made two costly errors that looked genuine football blunders though.

Bizabani was involved in a major blunder early in the second half when he attempted a short pass to a teammate that was intercepted by Scottland striker Tymon Machope, who slotted the ball into an empty net to complete his brace.

Bizabani slipped while trying to recover, failing to stop the goal.

Earlier in the game, Ndlovu was also at fault for Scottland’s second goal.

The young defender tried to maintain possession by playing a quick one-two, but his pass was intercepted.

The ball was passed to Machope, who took full advantage to score past a helpless Bizabani.

In response to the growing speculation, FC Platinum released a statement:

“FC Platinum is aware of recent reports regarding its senior team players as well as unsubstantiated allegations made against them.

“FC Platinum operates with integrity and adheres strictly to all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

“We view these allegations with the seriousness they deserve and are currently reviewing all options available to address this matter appropriately.

“We urge the public and the media to refrain from spreading unverified information that can cause unwarranted reputational damage.

“Should further clarification be necessary, we remain open to transparent engagement through the appropriate channels. No further comment will be made at this time.”

Meanwhile, reports indicate that up to three additional players may also face suspensions as the club continues with investigations into the alleged match-fixing scandal.
