BLOEMFONTEIN – Prosper Madera, the first beneficiary of the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation U-17 tournament delivered an impressive performance on his senior debut for the Zimbabwe Warriors in their 0-0 draw against Mauritius at the COSAFA tournament on Wednesday.
Madera, who started the match, dominated the midfield with maturity and skill, surprising many Warriors fans who were unfamiliar with the rising star.
The pint sized defensive midfielder played the full 90 minutes and will be looking to maintain his form in the Warriors’ upcoming blockbuster match against rivals South Africa on Saturday.
Kickoff time at 3pm.
Last year, the 19-year-old signed a four-year contract with Finnish top-flight club Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho (SJK), marking a major step in his professional career.
This move came two years after Madera had secured a full scholarship at Brooke House College in Leicestershire, England.
Majesa Academy co-director Charles Chave confirmed the scholarship.
“Prosper is going to England on a college scholarship. He will be able to study while also pursuing his football career,” he said.
“As an academy, this is what we pride ourselves in. We desire to see more of our players going this same route as we aim not only to become a top football academy in the country but also to transform the lives of the youth.
“Prosper will be attending school while he awaits professional procedures next January.”
Madera is a product of Majesa Academy.
He rose to prominence through the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation youth competition.
