HARARE – Fans of Zimdancehall superstar Winky D have expressed their anger and dismay at his exclusion from this year’s Castle Tankard, a gig he seems to have been exiled from by the organisers under pressure from the government.
Having headlined the same gig for six years before he was ushered off stage unceremoniously in 2022, the firebrand dancehall chanter has not been invited back to the same stage since.
In 2022, police walked on stage and grabbed the microphone from the musician, alleging that organisers had overstepped by allowing the event to continue up until past 10 pm.
A recent lineup shared by Castle Tankard ZW was once again missing the man known as the Gafa President to his fans.
Alick Macheso, Enzo Ishall, Oriyano, Delroy Shewe, Chillspot, and Nissan Ts are set to headline the gig slated for 9 May.
Conspiracy theorists have alleged that Winky D, one of the few government critics in Zimbabwean music, was being punished by authorities for his political views.
“No gaffer no party..Hatiuye kusina winky D,” one social media user said under a post by Castle Tankard announcing the line up.
“Hakuna tangard isina VaWinky D.. Gadzirai line up yatikuda apo isai Goat,” another said.
