HARARE – Former Zimbabwean footballer Takesure Chinyama may arguably, no longer be in the spotlight back home or in neighbouring South Africa, where he played for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates.
However, in Poland, the former striker is held in high regard, with his former club Legia Warsaw, framing his pair of boots and displaying them at their museum.
The Adidas boots, captured in a video shared on social media by UK-based former H-Metro reporter Chipo Sabeta, were worn by Chinyama during the 2008/09 Ekstraklasa season.
That season, Chinyama clinched the Golden Boot award, jointly with Paweł Brożek, after both netted 19 goals.
The pair finished five goals ahead of Polish legend Robert Lewandowski who was still plying his trade in his homecountry before moving to top leagues.
Following the award, Chinyama made history, becoming the first non European player to win the prestigious accolade in the Polish top flight league.
The former Dynamos and Orlando Pirates striker is currently based in Poland, where he has taken on a new role in football.
He was recently appointed as one of the coaches at the Polish academy KS Bibiczanka.
“Takesure Chinyama – former footballer of Legia Warsaw and the top scorer of the Polish Ekstraklasa in 2009, a representative of Zimbabwe, begins his coaching career at the START Sport Academy and will support the further development of players training at the Football Academy KS Bibiczanka,” the academy announced in a statement.
“Coach Takesure Chinyama will work with coaches of youth groups that participate in league games, i.e. with Junior, Sneakers and Youth teams AP KS Bibiczanka i.e. Players from 2013 to 2006.
“He will take an active part in selected classes so that each of our players can have direct contact with a player of this class.”
Chinyama recently earned his CAF coaching license and is now working towards obtaining his UEFA coaching badges.
