HARARE – Gospel star Dorcas Moyo has said she doesn’t want to be involved in back-and-forth exchanges with people on social media, after recent comments saw her come under fire on various platforms.
Moyo, who posted “Ranganai Zvenyu asi Zvichakona”, which translates to Plan all you want, but it shall fail on 31 March, the day of a planned national protest, found herself under fire from disgruntled Zimbabweans who felt she was a prophet of doom.
However, in an interview with the Herald, Moyo said she did not have any axe to grind with any of her recent critics.
“Honestly speaking, it’s not easy. At times, it really takes its toll on oneself. I have learnt not to engage in social media battles and have opted for quiet diplomacy,” she said.
The resultant criticism she received saw her gifted a 2025 Toyota Fortuner and US$20 000 by businessman Wicknell Chivayo, who said the vehicle was in recognition of her contributions to Zimbabwean gospel music.
“In recognition of your exceptional TALENT and contributions in the GOSPEL music industry, I want to say a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to DORCAS MOYO , Please GO AND SEE VICTOR on Wednesday your brand spanking new 2025 TOYOTA FORTUNER 2.4 GD6 will be ready for collection and FULLY PAID for at Exquisite Car Dealership.
“As well nekuti ZANU PF “RUDO” he will also give you a small 20 thousand dollars in CASH for petrol and to spoil yourself at the salon my dear sister, YOU DESERVE it after all this stress and hate speech,” he posted.

Moyo said the gesture was a rare and generous act.
“It would be wizardry at its pinnacle should one fail to appreciate such a rare deed of generosity. I’m extra excited to receive such a huge token from Sir Wicknell, and I pray that God continues blessing him,” she said.
The gesture drew fury from corruption weary Zimbabweans who asked whether they would need to insult Parirenyatwa Hospital for example in order for the institution and others around the country can get basic medicines and equipment.
“Why are Zimbabweans ululating for a corruption rigged country that is deteriorating daily…… next to zero service delivery when the available resources are being used without regard for priorities,” Shaibu Amana wrote.
“Problem about you Wicknell is you only help the rich not the poor that is why your efforts are always going down the drain,” wrote Rra Ma Thuthu on Facebook.
“Now you are politicizing her. The purpose of these cars it to capture all influencers , musicians and content creators … so that when the time is right .. they will sing your ED tunes,” wrote Mdara 5 on Facebook.
