WASHINGTON – Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky have clashed in an extraordinary exchange at the White House, with Trump telling the Ukrainian president to “make a deal or we’re out”.
Trump told his Ukrainian counterpart to be “thankful” and accused him of “gambling with World War Three”.
It comes a week after Zelensky said Trump was “living in a disinformation space” created by Russia, and the Trump accused Zelensky of being a “dictator”.
Zelensky left the White House following his angry exchange with Trump and Vice-President JD Vance.
A live feed of the entrance of the West Wing of the White House shows the Ukrainian president rush out through the door and into a black SUV, which drives him away.
A few moments ago, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that Zelensky “disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.”
The scheduled news conference between Zelensky and Trump has been cancelled, according to the White House, after the two presidents’ tense Oval Office meeting.
