BULAWAYO – Controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo delivered on his promise by clearing Highlanders’ US$27,000 debt owed to former coaches Baltemar Brito and Antonio Joao Torres, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The debt was a result of unpaid winning bonuses which Highlanders owed to the two international coaches who left the club in December 2023 upon expiration of their contracts.

The debt had led FIFA to impose a transfer ban on Bosso until the outstanding amount was settled.

As a result, Chivayo pledged to step in after news broke on Sunday that the Bulawayo giants were in trouble.

Taking to X, he declared: “Bosso ngenkani! Iteam yezwe lonke. Babethi ayibulawe, ayisoze ibulawe sikhona. I will gladly pay this outstanding debt directly to the coach tomorrow (Monday) without fail.

“Someone please inbox and share the banking details with the exact amount due asap,” wrote Chivayo on Sunday.

On Wednesday the Bulawayo giants confirmed that Chivayo has honored his commitment.

“Highlanders Football Club would like to extend its sincerest gratitude to Mr. Wicknell Chivayo for his generous gesture in settling the outstanding debts of our two coaches in full, as promised.
