HARARE – In an unexpected turn of events, Temba Mliswa who wanted to contest for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidency, has now thrown his support behind Nqobile Magwizi.

The endorsement came after Mliswa withdrew his High Court case against ZIFA on Tuesday.

Mliswa was challenging his disqualification from the presidential race after failing an integrity test conducted by the ZIFA Electoral Committee recently.

Mliswa was contesting the legitimacy of the election process and the validity of the new ZIFA constitution, arguing it was amended by councillors whose terms had already expired, so it was null and void.

Speaking after withdrawing his case, Mliswa expressed his support for Magwizi.

“I want to make it very clear, I will support Magwizi as a matter of principle because he has promised (to take Zimbabwean football to greater heights).

“I appreciated his effort to visit me (at my rural place) to have a lengthy discussion about his vision for ZIFA,” said Mliswa.

Furthemore, Mliswa clarified his support is not limited to Magwizi.

“But it’s not like I’m restricted to Magwizi. I will also support whoever wins the election,” he added.

Magwizi is competing against five other candidates in Philemon Machana, Twine Phiri, Marshall Gore, Makwinji Soma-Phiri, and Martin Kweza.
