HARARE – Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) presidential hopeful Nqobile Magwizi has pledged to redirect the US$50,000 annual allowance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) towards women’s and grassroots football development, should he win the election this Saturday.
The allowance, paid tax-free to CAF member association presidents, is intended to compensate them for their time leading football federations.
However, the Banket United board member, has vowed not to use the funds for personal gain.
“My priority is to improve Zimbabwean football as a whole. I will not use the US$50,000 annual bonus from CAF for personal purposes,” said Magwizi.
“Some might consider it a small amount, but every bit counts. This money can improve the standards of grassroots and women’s football leagues,” he added.
In addition to the CAF allowance pledge, the business executive has promised to ensure equitable distribution of FIFA funds among all ZIFA members once elected.
Magwizi is among six candidates vying for the ZIFA presidency, alongside Phillemon Machana, Martin Kweza, Twine Phiri, Makwinji Soma Phiri, and Marshall Gore.
The election is set for January 25 at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare.
