ZIFA confirm Prophet Walter Magaya’s High Court challenge of disqualification

HARARE – The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Normalisation Committee (NC) has confirmed that Prophet Walter Magaya filed a High Court application challenging his disqualification from the upcoming ZIFA presidential elections.

Magaya’s disqualification followed his failure to meet the eligibility criteria due to his pending court cases and conviction.

The Yadah FC owner had intended to contest in the upcoming elections slated for 25 January in Harare.

In response to the disqualification, the leader of PHD Ministries has sought legal recourse through the High Court.

A statement from the ZIFA NC confirmed receipt of the court application:

“The ZIFA Normalisation Committee, acting as the ZIFA Electoral Committee, acknowledges the High Court application filed by Walter Magaya for review of his ineligibility to run for the ZIFA presidency, as communicated on 23 December 2024.”

Despite the legal challenge, the NC has announced that the elections will proceed as scheduled.

The committee also expressed disappointment that Magaya chose to take the matter to the High Court, unlike another disqualified candidate, Benjani Mwaruwari, who opted to appeal his disqualification through the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
