Felix Maphosa, a 29-year-old man from Chipinge, Zimbabwe, allegedly brutally murdered his 47-year-old wife following a dispute over birth control pills.
The accused appeared before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court on murder charges after allegedly striking his wife on the head three times with an iron bar and then hitting a nail into her chest with a hammer.
The deadly dispute arose on December 31, 2024, when Maphosa discovered that his wife had been taking birth control pills without his knowledge. The argument escalated, resulting in the gruesome attack.
Maphosa left the scene and went to a beer hall, only to return the following morning to find his wife dead.
Maphosa was remanded in custody until January 17, 2025, and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
In another case, a 25-year-old man from Chief Sitaudze, Beitbridge, was brought before the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court on rape charges. The alleged victim is the accused’s 15-year-old cousin, who is in Form 2.
According to allegations, on December 31, 2024, the complainant was left in the care of the accused, along with two other minors. The next morning, the complainant woke up to find the accused touching her, prompting her to scream for help.
The accused allegedly dragged the complainant outside, threatening her with a silver kitchen knife. He carried her outside the house, threw her to the ground, and dragged her to a nearby bush, where the alleged rape occurred.
The complainant reported the incident to her mother over the phone, leading to a police report and the arrest of the accused. The accused has been remanded in custody until the next court date.
