Zimbabwe Warriors vice captain Marshall Munetsi’s Foundation is set to receive a total of 30, 100 euros from his club Stade Reims for the kilometres the midfielder covered on the field of play last season.
Munetsi has a clause in his contract that abides the club to donate 100 euros to his Mabvuku based foundation for every kilometre he covers on the pitch.
Munetsi and Stade Reims entered into an agreement the Ligue 1 side will donate 100 euros for every kilometer ran by the Zimbabwe international during matches.
As a result, a French publication, Foot Mercato reports that Reims will donate 30, 100 euros to Munetsi’s foundation equivalent to the kilometres the ex- Orlando Pirates midfielder covered during the 2022/23 campaign.
The clause was agreed in June 2023 when Munetsi extended his stay at Reims to 2027.
“We added a new clause in his contract, a kind of mileage bonus. It was important to us to promote this type of personal initiative.
“It is customary to caricature football and the professional footballer as being disconnected from the world around him. Marshall (Munetsi), through his actions, helps to silence certain prejudices,” confirmed the Reims director general Mathieu Lacour.
The club announced that Munetsi had run 301 kilometres.
“301km this season for Marshall Munetsi! For every kilometer traveled by the Zimbabwean midfielder, the Stade de Reims donates €100 (each km) to its Foundation,” Reims wrote at the end of last season.
“The Marshall Munetsi Foundation is committed to promoting access to education for children in the country.”
