Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Vice Presidential candidate Gift Banda has reportedly been arrested by police in Bulawayo over an allegedly forged “O” Level certificate that he used to file his nomination papers, Nehanda Radio has been told.

We also understand police want to speak to Prophet Walter Magaya over another forged “O’ Level certificate and another for a Diploma in Marketing that was issued in his name by the same person who forged Banda’s.

The alleged forger identified to Nehanda Radio as Anele Zikhali is being held at Pumula Police Station while Banda is locked up in cells at West Commonage Police Station.

Its being alleged that Magaya paid Zikhali in three instalments of US$500 each while a transaction showing Banda paid US$500 has also been retrieved.

We also understand the headmistress of Mpopoma High School has also been picked up by police over the issue.

Our source told us “Its being alleged Banda took his fake certificate and went to Mpopoma High School and stole someone else’s transcript (Cambridge) from 1986 and acted like he had not initially collected his certificate.

“They allegedly connived with the headmistress to ensure anyone who phoned to confirm his certificate would be told its legitimate. The candidate number on the certificate is for someone else who wrote but is not Gift Banda.

“There are ZIMSEC certificates with Magaya’s name but I was not able to get the name of the school. Its expected the police will be on their way to Harare to speak to Magaya,” the source told Nehanda Radio.

ZIMSEC has already confirmed the certificates are fake.
