“I do not need that apology” – Singer Lady Zamar hits out at Sjava again
South African musician Lady Zamar has said she does not need her ex-lover, Sjava, to apologise to her for the hurt inflicted on her as she does not believe that he would be sincere if he offered one.
Sjava and Zamar had a much publicised breakup in 2017, after they released statements that they were parting ways. Before that, the couple’s relationship had been a well-guarded secret.
In the aftermath of their acrimonious breakup, the singer accused Sjava of sexually assaulting her during the course of their relationship.
Charges against the musician were later dropped with South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority dismissing the case, stating that “the evidence or facts do not support a successful prosecution.”
Posting on Threads, Lady Zamar, real name Yamikani Janet Banda, said she did not want Sjava to apologise to her because she could not trust a man that had mobilised people to attack her.
“Now I realise I could not trust the apology of a person who actively violated me and spread horrendous lies about me so that more people could violate me even further.
“I know now that I do not need that apology to be okay. I will just trust God to fix that hurt. And soothe the anger instead of carrying it around with me. There is peace in Jesus Christ,” wrote Lady Zamar.
In an appearance on Showmax’s Unfollowed in 2023, Lady Zamar revealed the backlash that she received after she laid the charge. She also revealed the state of her liaison with Sjava before the alleged incident.
“It had happened two years before I spoke about it, I had always thought it was my fault,” said Lady Zamar.
“I had blamed myself immensely. And I felt like it was me who walked into that room unaware. We had never discussed anything sexual, no intimacy had taken place prior to that.”
