The Zimbabwean football community is calling on Warriors legend Peter ‘Nsukuzonke’ Ndlovu to contest in the upcoming ZIFA presidential elections scheduled for 18 January next year.

In fact, some wish the former Warriors captain be instated as the next ZIFA president, indicating the passion he had for the national team during his playing days could translate into the success of the country’s football federation.

Some have even started a social media campaign #PeterForZIFAPresidency.

Ndlovu has garnered public support to lead ZIFA with prominent politicians also joining the bandwagon.

Former legislators Temba Mliswa and Walter Mzembi have publicly thrown their weight behind the ex-Highlanders, Sheffield United and Birmingham City star.

Mliswa who is contemplating vying for the ZIFA presidency said he will not contest if Ndlovu throws his hat into the ring.

He wrote on X on Tuesday: “In honour of his stature in local football, if Peter (Ndlovu) announces his intentions to stand for the ZIFA Presidency, then I won’t contest him.

“I would rather work, from another role, supporting his vision. It was great to talk to him sharing ideas and hearing what he thinks.”

Mzembi, believes Ndlovu who is currently holding an administration position at Mamelodi Sundowns, is the right man to take the reins at the country’s football mother body.

“Peter is football and football is Peter. Every person should be allowed and assisted to reach their point of self actualization,” wrote Mzembi on X.

“For Peter Ndlovu, landing the ZIFA Presidency is a well deserved cap to his football career.”

Additionally, human rights lawyer Obey Shava also shared the same sentiments.

“We have tried professionals with zero football knowledge, whose main qualification was money and we became a laughing stock.

“Peter Ndlovu knows exactly whats needed and how its done. We certainly don’t need anyone to put our problems in a satchel. It’s the captain’s time,” he said.

Despite this overwhelming backing, Ndlovu has chosen to remain silent on the issue.
