Sports enthusiast as well as former Zimbabwe senior national team fitness trainer, Temba Mliswa has said he will not enter the race for the most coveted ZIFA presidential post, if Warriors legend Peter Ndlovu throws his hat in the ring for the top position.
His remarks comes after he told this reporter last week he is interested in vying for the hot seat, citing that he wants to put order in place (at ZIFA).
“If I was a Dynamos chairman, why not lead ZIFA,” the former parliamentarian told Nehanda Radio.
Furthermore, the outspoken former MP for Norton indicated that his decision to contest for ZIFA presidency is to try and bring transparency through ending alleged corruption that has engulfed the organisation since its formation.
Barely a week after Mliswa expressed his desire to lead ZIFA, he has taken to X to reveal he will backtrack provided Nsukuzonke as Ndlovu was nicknamed during his playing days, contests.
Wrote Mliswa: “In honour of his stature in local football, if Peter announces his intentions to stand for the ZIFA Presidency, then I won’t contest him.”
The ex-Dynamos chairman added: “I would rather work, from another role, supporting his vision. It was great to talk to him sharing ideas and hearing what he thinks.”
Mliswa met the former Sheffield United striker to discuss about the future of Zimbabwean football in terms of its leadership and administration.
Ndlovu, the most capped and Warriors all time leading top scorer with 100 caps and 38 goals respectively, is a beloved figure in Zimbabwean football.
Ndlovu, the first African to play in the rebranded English top flight league, has gained public support to lead ZIFA.
His name is widely being circulated on various social media platforms by the country’s football enthusiasts who are suggesting and pleading that he must be instated as the new ZIFA boss rather than being voted into office.
However, at the moment, Ndlovu has remained quiet about the matter.
The ZIFA elections are slated for early next year (18 January 2025).
