NORTON – The drama in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One League continues to unfold as Norton Community FC has until further notice, suspended five of it’s members over alleged match-fixing.

The suspension comes after the team’s humiliating 7-0 defeat to title contenders and moneybags Scottland FC last week at Rufaro Stadium.

An investigation was launched by the club’s leadership following the heavy loss said to have raised concerns about the possibility of match-fixing.

As a result, this led to the suspension of individuals including coaches Willard Nguwoyembwa and Clemence Masunda, Executive Members Tafadzwa Kuyerukana and Patrick Nyamayaro together with goalkeeper Brandon Bere.

In a statement, Norton Community FC confirmed the suspensions.

“We notify the public about the suspension of 5 team members with Immediate Effect, as of 16 October 2024, they no longer partake on any club activities until further notice.

“The suspensions resulted from an investigation following a review of the matchday 33 Scottland FC vs Norton Community at Rufaro Stadium, over allegations of match fixing which violates our club Policies/Rules.

“The club takes these allegations seriously and we are committed in maintaining the highest standards of conduct and sportsmanship,” they wrote.

Scottland, owned by gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya, has been embroiled in several match-fixing controversies this season as the team remains keen to secure top flight league promotion.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the club wants to bribe its way into the Premier Soccer League with match officials, opponents and the Northern Region officials involved in the syndicate.
