Zimbabwe Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba has implored fans to rally behind the team ahead of the crucial back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Namibia.
The Luton Town midfielder, who has returned to the Warriors fold after being sidelined for the past four matches due to a knee injury, emphasised the importance of fan support.
“For the fans back home, we really need their support. They should keep on supporting the boys. Together we have a chance to achieve something positive,” pleaded the Warriors skipper.
Nakamba’s comments comes after the Brave Warriors of Namibia announced fans will not be allowed in today’s match, citing incapacity to cover logistics such as security at Orlando Stadium their temporary home ground.
As are result, Namibia made a request to CAF that the match be played behind closed doors.
“Please note our away match between Namibia and Zimbabwe scheduled for Thursday will be played behind closed doors. No fans will be allowed for both teams,” the ZIFA spokesperson Mike Madoda told journalists on Monday.
Additionally, Madoda said fans will be allowed next Monday when Zimbabwe hosts Namibia at the same venue.
“However, our home match scheduled for Monday will be open to all fans,” he added.
Meanwhile, the former Aston Villa man expressed his delight with his return to the national team fold having last represented Zimbabwe in November.
“I’m really happy to be back in the team. We are ready to fight for the badge to get a positive result,” he added.
