HARARE – Controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has donated a brand new Toyota Fortuner to Oliver Mtukudzi’s widow, Daisy as a tribute to the late musician’s contribution to the country’s music fraternity and socio-political landscape.

Posting on his Facebook page, Chivayo praised Mtukudzi’s poetic lyrics, wisdom, and intellectual advice, which transcended international borders and unified a nation.

The ex-convict highlighted Mtukudzi’s achievements, including being declared a National Hero, earning a doctoral title, and being honoured posthumously at the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival in South Africa.

He noted that Mtukudzi’s music played a significant role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle and post-independence era.

As a token of appreciation for Mtukudzi’s legacy, Chivayo gifted Daisy the car which he directed her to collect from Auto-Expo Car Sales.

“On that note, I say a big congratulations to Mrs Daisy Mtukudzi, the one and only official wife of the late great legend, whom I was introduced to prior to Tuku’s sad demise,” Chivayo said.

“Please go and see my brother Kelvin at Auto-Expo Car Sales on Cleveland Rd in Milton Park , opposite Prince Edward Boys High School. Your beautiful brand new 2024 Toyota Fortuner 2.4D is fully paid for and ready for collection immediately.

“Please accept this small token of appreciation for your late husband’s significant and priceless contribution to the music industry. Please enjoy your new car, and may his soul continue to rest in eternal peace.”

The donation comes at a time when Selmor and her sister Sandra, the daughters of Mtukudzi, criticised their stepmother, Daisy, for blocking them from doing projects with their father, including recording song collaborations.

“His situation was difficult because of Mama (Daisy) who didn’t want us to be close to him,” Selmor said during a podcast interview with DJ Ollah 7 on Thursday last week.

Chivayo has donated millions worth of vehicles to Zanu-PF supporters and musicians linked to the ruling party. Sulumani Chimbetu, Sandra Ndebele and Jah Prayzah are also beneficiaries.

The source of his funds however has been mired in controversy after explosive revelations that more than US$100 million in public funds was looted by Chivayo and his accomplices through a dodgy tender to supply materials to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) during last year’s flawed elections.
