Pravin Gordhan, a former finance minister in South Africa, has passed away at the age of 75, his family have confirmed.
His family shared that Gordhan died early Friday morning in a hospital after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
They noted that he was surrounded by his family, close friends, and lifelong comrades from the liberation struggle during his final moments.
A veteran of the anti-apartheid movement, Gordhan had been involved in South African politics since 1994, the year the nation began its journey toward democracy.
Throughout his career, he held several key positions within the government until he announced his retirement from politics in May.
He is survived by his wife, Vanitha, and their daughters, Anisha and Priyesha.
