Tawanda Chirewa suffers injury on national duty; set to miss club action
Zimbabwe Warriors forward Tawanda Chirewa is set to briefly miss action for his English club Derby County due to an injury set back.
Chirewa suffered a concussion during Zimbabwe’s game against Cameroon following a clash of heads with an Indomitable Lions player.
Derby coach Paul Warne confirmed the injury: “Tawanda (Chirewa) has suffered a concussion so he’ll miss the next two (matches).”
According to sources close to the player, “he was ordered by the medical team to rest for ten days before returning to action once again”.
Chirewa is at Derby County after joining the club at the start of the 2024/25 campaign on a season long loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“Derby County have completed the loan signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Tawanda Chirewa,” they confirmed.
“The 20-year-old attacking midfielder, who has represented Zimbabwe at international level, has joined the Rams on loan for the 2024/25 season from the Premier League outfit.”
The highly rated rising star made eight Premier League appearances for Wolves last season.
