Nigeria – At least 48 people were killed in a fiery collision between a fuel tanker and a bus carrying passengers and cattle in central Nigeria’s Niger state, the country’s disaster management agency reported.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency said the accident occurred around 1:30 am local time on Sunday when the fuel tanker collided with the passenger bus. The impact caused an explosion that engulfed both vehicles.
Agency director-general Abdullahi Baba-arah said response teams were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. Several other vehicles were also caught in the blast.
Footage from the site showed the two charred vehicles and a number of dead cattle. An emergency worker told Reuters they were working to recover bodies and animals still inside the wreckage.

Governor Umaru Bago expressed condolences to the families in the “unfortunate incident.”
Partly because of the poor state of the roads in Nigeria, fuel tanker explosions and accidents are common.
