Self-proclaimed Queen of Gqom Music, Babes Wodumo, has hit out at South African music producer Kabza De Small for not releasing some of the songs he made with her late husband, Mampintsha, while he was still alive.

Mampintsha passed away on 24 December 2022 after suffering from a stroke.

In an interview with Zimoja, Wodumo revealed that Mampintsha had recorded two songs with Kabza, one-half of the famous Scorpion Kings, before his death.

“That was more than two years ago, but he is still holding onto the music, haw kahle! Either he releases the music or sends it to me or I will release it under his label as his own.

“I don’t want the legacy of my husband to die just because people are holding onto his music,” Babe said.

The gqom musician said she would not allow artists that the Big Nuz frontman worked with before his death to just store his songs, as she believed that his family was meant to benefit from his work.

“He spent a lot of time in the studio, and there are people for whom he did vocals on their songs but have not released them. I’m asking for umculo wendoda yami (my man’s music). His child needs it,” she said.

Meanwhile Kabza said he had a lot of unreleased music that would only see the light of day at the right time.

“I have hundreds of songs that have not even been released, and you wait for the right time. It’s the same with Mampintsha. We made a song together, but it wasn’t the right time. I have spoken to Babes; the music will be released.” Kabza said. Telly Africa
