Deputy Finance Minister Kudakwashe Mnangagwa now a registered lawyer

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son Kudakwashe David, who is also the Deputy Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, has been admitted as a registered legal practitioner.

The admission ceremony took place at the High Court of Zimbabwe on Wednesday, where David was seen wearing a court gown and smiling alongside his wife and colleagues.

The Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion congratulated Mnangagwa on his achievement, noting that he has added this qualification to his existing credentials as an actuary and venture capitalist entrepreneur.

“Hearty Congratulations to our Deputy Minister, Hon. K. D. Mnangagwa who is now a Registered Legal Practitioner over and above his qualifications as an Actuary and Venture Capitalist Entrepreneur,” the Ministry said.

David completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree at the University of Zimbabwe between 2019 and 2023. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Actuarial Science from Drake University in the United States, which he obtained in 2011.

Additionally, he completed a degree program in Tourism and Hospitality at Lupane State University in 2022.

Prior to his admission as a legal practitioner, Mnangagwa worked as an Actuarial Associate at Aon Hewitt in the United States and served as a board member of the National Building Society in Zimbabwe from 2015 to 2020.

He is also a founding partner of Flame Lily Venture Capital Group, a private equity investment and advisory firm, and the owner of Bentach Resources, which renovated the Kudzanayi Bus Terminus in Gweru.

The President faced criticism in September last year for appointing his son, David, as the Deputy Finance Minister.

The move raised concerns about nepotism within the government. Mnangagwa’s nephew, Tongai Mafidhi Mnangagwa, was also named Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality.
