Farai Chinomona, daughter of Zanu-PF bigwig appointed to CAAZ board

HARARE – The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) has announced the appointment of new board members, including Farai Chinomona, daughter of Zanu-PF party’s Secretary for Women’s Affairs and President of the Senate Mabel Chinomona.

Retired Deputy Commissioner General Nonkosi Ncube has been appointed as Acting Board Chairperson, replacing Captain Alois Nyandoro, while Joshua Muhwati has been appointed as Acting Deputy Chairperson.

Eustinah Guta has also been appointed as a board member, alongside Farai Chinomona.

In a statement, CAAZ expressed its wishes for success to the newly appointed directors in their new roles and appointments.

“The Authority wishes the above Directors success in their new roles and appointments.

“Further, the Authority expresses its appreciation to the outgoing Board Chairperson Captain Alois G Nyandoro and Board Member Dr. Onai Muvingi for the hard work during their tenure,” CAAZ said in a statement.

CAAZ was established on January 1, 1999, succeeding the former Department of Civil Aviation.

As the government body responsible for overseeing the aviation sector in Zimbabwe, CAAZ’s key functions include providing air navigation and technical services, as well as enforcing flight safety and standards through regulation.

The Authority is headquartered at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

In 2021, the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) took over airport management responsibilities from CAAZ, marking a significant development in the sector.

ACZ officially launched on September 23, 2021, signaling the successful separation of the two entities. The development aimed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of airport management in Zimbabwe.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona has appointed nine more board members for five parastatals.
