Legendary Zimbabwean football coach Nelson Matongorere dies aged 68

HARARE – CAPS United Technical Director (TD) and assistant coach as well as veteran FIFA coaches’ instructor Nelson Matongorere (68) has died.

Matongorere, a Zimbabwean football legend and a man of many hats passed on at a local hospital in Harare.

He succumbed to a stroke suffered last month (April) just before the CAPS United and Highlanders match at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.

Matongorere’s immense contribution to football particularly the local league will forever be remembered.

He once worked as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) TD around 2011, serving the nation with distinction.

He is also credited for playing a huge role in the growth of Women’s football in the country.

Matongorere who once led the Young Warriors in the U-20s and U-23s, is also applauded for grooming a number of top Zimbabwean coaches.

These include former Warriors coaches Kalisto Pasuwa, Norman Mapeza as well as Lloyd Chitembwe.
