Registrar General Clemence Masango, who was on Wednesday arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) after purchasing vehicles without Cabinet authority, yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court and was remanded out of custody on $10 000 bail.

Registrar General Clemence Masango has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on charges of flouting tender procedures when buying five vehicles for the Central Registry and taking seven other Government vehicles to his farm for personal use.

Following an article titled “Shocking corruption at Passport Office”, which exposed deep-rooted graft at the Passport and Birth Registry offices, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe last week came out guns blazing. During a tour of the passport, registry and immigration offices, Minister Kazembe spoke strongly against corruption and promised to rid the offices of bad apples.
