Woman accuses mom of dad STD infection

By Gibson Mhaka

In an incident eerily reminiscent of the drama and violence of TV soaps, a 45-year-old woman in Bulawayo is mercilessly beating up her elderly mother accusing her of being a prostitute who infected her father with a sexually transmitted disease.

Leader Whara from Mhlope Flats in Mzilikazi claimed her daughter Tendai Moyo gets pleasure in verbally and physically harassing her.

Whara said it was inconceivable that a daughter could be so disrespectful to the extent of accusing her biological mother of being a witch and prostitute.

Narrating her ordeal, at the Bulawayo Civil Court, Whara explained that her daughter derived pleasure from beating her and that she no longer wanted her in the house.

“I am the applicant in his matter and the respondent Tendai Moyo is my biological daughter. My daughter has gone violent. She is verbally and physically abusing me while calling me a witch. She was married and left her husband to stay with me after they had a misunderstanding. She doesn’t not cook for me or talk to me. She wants me out of the house yet the house is mine.

“She has since stopped eating the food I prepare saying I am of ill-health and that I am a prostitute who infected her father with a sexually transmitted disease. Other family members have tried to talk to her but to no avail. I now want her out of the house as she is also harassing tenants,” complained Whara.

She further said she was afraid that her daughter might poison her as she wanted to inherit her house.

In response a seemingly exposed Moyo told the court that she was planning to move out of the house once she gets somewhere to stay.

“I am opposed to her application because all the allegations she has levelled against me are not true. The problem with my mother is that she wants to stay alone.

“She once evicted me from her house but later called me back after I had an altercation with my husband. I am not refusing to vacate the house, I will do so once I get somewhere to stay,” said Moyo.

In a bid to maintain peace and order between Whara and her daughter the presiding magistrate Rachael Mukanga ordered Moyo not to verbally, physically and emotionally abuse her mother. She also ordered her to move out of her mother’s house on or before 30 April this year. B-Metro
