‘She lied to me that she was still a virgin before I paid lobola’

A city man reportedly beats up his wife with a sjambok each time they are caught up in a marital dispute. 

This came to light at the Harare Civil Court where Patricia Musekiwa was seeking a protection order against Shepherd Musekiwa accusing him of physical and emotional abuse.

“Shepherd is my husband but I can no longer stand his abusive behaviour.

“He constantly assaults me with a sjambok and I want to tell him this honorable court that he uses a weapon each time we engage in an argument.

“This is the fourth time he chased me out of our matrimonial house over a girlfriend.

“I once moved out of our matrimonial house for two years after he brutally assaulted me with a sjambok.

“He assaults me in front of our children and does not respect me as his wife, “she said.

In response, Shepherd did not dispute the allegations.

“We have never got along from the beginning because Patricia lied to me that she was still a virgin before I paid her bride price,” he said.

Magistrate Barbra Mateko, who presided over the matter, granted a protection order in Patricia’s favor.
