Turf War: Macheso vs Peter Moyo
HARARE – Sungura musicians Alick Macheso and Peter Moyo last week shared the stage on three occasions in Chitungwiza, Zvishavane and Harare.
The Zvishavane and Harare events were electric, not only revealing that a new sungura war is simmering underneath but also giving revellers some new talking points.
The Kwekwe-based Moyo played first in Zvishavane and left fans clamouring for more.
When it was Macheso’s turn, his act had a few takers after the energetic Utakataka Express performance.
This did not go down well with the sungura king.
Consequently, he hijacked Moyo’s slot at Harare Gardens the following day and went on to play for over three hours, resulting in Moyo threatening to abandon the gig as the venue was nearing its closing time.
Moyo only reconsidered after fans mobbed his car, begging him to play even for 30 minutes. The Sunday Mail
