Everton are closing in on the signing of Samuel Eto’o with the Cameroon international set to sign a two-year deal with the club.

The former Chelsea striker, released by the west London club this summer, is due to have a medical with the Toffees on Tuesday.

Eto’o’s representatives spoke with Everton last week prior to resuming talks with Liverpool.

Sportsmail understands the Cameroon international has had to lower his wage demands having earned £130,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge last season.

The frontman turned down the chance to sign for Ajax after the deadline for an agreement passed at 6pm last Wednesday.

Eto’o scored 12 goals in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea last season, including a hat-trick against Manchester United.

The 33-year-old will join Romelu Lukaku, Steven Naismith and Arouna Kone in Everton’s frontline. Mail Online
