Robert is not the only member of the Mugabe family who has been smoking the peace pipe. Mugabe’s youngest son Bellarmine Chatunga (18), who was expelled from St Georges College, is rumoured to love the fog of nite clubs and the din that goes with the life of a party boy.

While his mother values her privacy – ‘Don’t take photo!’ – Chatunga seems to hold a different view. Mugabe junior appears in an online publication, lounging on a sofa with a coterie of girls, in an indecorous tangle of arms and legs. In another photograph, thick palls of smoke issue from the mouth of Chatunga and that of an unidentified male companion.

While the brand of cigarettes is not clear, the thickness and hue of the smoke suggests that it is something other than tobacco. At most national events, Mugabe loves to speak from the back of a high horse, preaching morals to the youth. He must be a proud father. The Zimbabwean
