Chatunga Mugabe collapses twice in custody as police hunt for missing gun

JOHANNESBURG – Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe (28) collapsed twice at Bramley Police Station holding cells in Johannesburg and required urgent medical attention according to reports in South Africa.

The youngest son of the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly shooting his gardener at a residence in the upmarket Hyde Park.

“While in custody, he collapsed twice, prompting medical attention and raising questions about his health and the conditions of detention,” one report said.

A spokesman for the police is quoted saying “The investigation is ongoing. Mr. Mugabe is receiving medical attention, and the missing firearm remains a priority for our officers.”

His lawyers also expressed concern urging authroities to ensure their client’s health is protected, and that the family expects due process under South African law.

According to SABC reporter Chriselda Lewis, authorities are intensifying efforts to locate the weapon, which was allegedly used at the scene involving a gardener.

Police divers were deployed to search the property, including the swimming pool, as part of the ongoing probe.
