Chengeto’s daughter and former ZImPraise choir member, Steff Dzingeni, was on Tuesday at the Harare Civil court suing Guspy for maintenance.

She had asked for US$560 a month for the three month old baby, broken down as US$100 (rent), US$150 (baby delivery bills), US$100 (groceries), US$50 (water and electricity) and US$20 (telephone bill).

However, presiding magistrate Gamuchirai Siwardi ordered Guspy to pay US$120 on the basis that Steff was also supposed to contribute to the child.

Chengeto said Guspy abandoned her daughter and also disowned the child.

My daughter (Steff) was a member of Zimpraise choir and when she left the group, Guspy started coming to my house asking my daughter to join his band.

“After sometime, I then started seeing him coming to my house picking up my daughter and going for live shows as well as rehearsals.

“I only thought their relationship was business because we stay in the same suburb and because he was a good friend to one of my sons.

“When he impregnated my daughter, he then started renting an apartment for her and I thought he was going to inform me that my daughter had eloped to him but he didn’t.

“I then took my daughter from that house after I was informed that he (Guspy) was no longer going there or paying rent for her.

“What hurts me the most is that when the child was born, he refused paternity of the child saying it wasn’t matching with the time that he had slept with her,” she said.

She went on to say that she was also unhappy with how Guspy Warrior’s parent’s Baba Machanic Manyeruke and his wife responded to the matter.

“After the child was born, I took the child to the Manyeruke family for them to see the child as well as mapping the way forward for the upkeep of the child.

“They didn’t receive us well, Mai Manyeruke even refused to hold the baby saying that they were not sure if the baby was their son’s because we should have informed them on time,” she said. H Metro
