The MDC-T Youth Assembly National Council has resolved to expel its Secretary General Promise Mkwananzi over allegations of misappropriating party funds, promoting factionalism, serious security breaches and misrepresenting the resolutions of the national council among other “constitutional breaches.”

The Youth Assembly National Council met at the party’s Harvest House headquarters on Sunday and later issued a resolution expelling Mkwananzi. His deputy, Netsai Samhembere, is now the Acting Secretary General.

The Youth Assembly National Council also “expressed serious displeasure in the manner in which Solomon Madzore is discharging his duties as the Assembly leader and his non-attendance of party programs and meetings.”

A resolution was passed that Madzore’s case be “forwarded to the top leadership for further deliberation and action according to article 12 of the constitution.”

Mkwananzi meanwhile told London based SW Radio Africa that “People are allowed to dream, let them dream on. I think they are underestimating the seriousness with which we take these positions and the party’s constitution.

“I am a member of the national executive of the party, Solomon Madzore is a member of the national standing committee, and so we can only be suspended by a two-thirds majority of the party’s national council.

“Tsvangirai issued a directive that all these suspensions and expulsions should stop and one wonders why they continue to happen if he and the people that surround him, are genuine in stopping this insanity and idiocy,” said Mkwananzi.
